Amigos, THIS is an excellent opportunity for service. I know we've already discussed collecting peanut butter and jelly donations as an advisory, but this is something you can do individually. I cannot recommend more strongly to give back to your community. Not for the sake of putting it on a resume, but for the genuine feeling of helping someone in need. Please consider this, especially freshmen who are looking to get out in the community!

Welcome back to school! Summer went by too fast, I know. We will be welcoming new students to our advisory as well as a new teacher, Julio. Julio will be co-teaching and co-advising with me this semester until I leave to have Jamón. I want to make sure I have a few things done before I leave you guys for three months. First things first: SENIORS, I need your brag sheets by the second week of school if you expect a letter of recommendation on time. They're called brag sheets, not humble sheets - tell me about each and every last detail! JUNIORS, let's get the conversation going about internship - it's never too early. Also we need to talk about honors, since it's an option for you this year. SOPHOMORES, I want to know what you're excited about this year! Also, the PSAT is approaching rapidly, let's talk about strategies and why it's an important (but doesn't define you) exam. FRESHMEN, we need to get you all set up with Naviance. More importantly, I want to get to know you. What's your favorite cereal? Would you rather fight a lion or a shark?
All in all, I'm just really excited to see all of you and can't wait for another great year. Cheers to starting the year off strong!
HERE is a great video on grit and why it should be important to you.
May 4, 2015
Advisory Day is this Thursday, May 7. It's important to know we are leaving from the Palomar Sprinter Station at 8:45 am to catch the 9ish am Sprinter, the cost for a pass is $5. The Sprinter leaves every 30 minutes, so we'll be able to make a few stops to plant our succulents along the way to Oceanside. Once we get to Oceanside we will have lunch together - there are options to buy lunch and you can also bring lunch, what ever you prefer. We will catch an early afternoon train back to San Marcos to be able to leave the Palomar Sprinter Station at 3:30 pm.
HERE is a copy of the Sprinter schedule for M-F

Welcome back to school! We have an awesome year ahead of us! This Friday I will bring my Vitamix - SMOOTHIES! If you have a special request please bring it, otherwise I'll have a bunch of healthy options for us. Cheers to a super great first week!
April 21, 2014
Advisory World Cup continues! Unfortunately we've been eliminated, but we'll cheer from the sidelines to show our support. I've also brought the donuts I promised you last week.
SLC's
SLC's are March 12 - 14, 2014. Please be on time and well prepared. I look forward to learning about how you are growing and being challenged!
Guide for Student Led Conferences (SLC's)
SLC's are an opportunity for you to discuss your academic and personal growth thus far at High Tech High North County. You will spend about 10 minutes discussing your development and there will be 5 minutes for Q & A. This will take place in your advisory class.
Option #1
Academic Development (7 minutes)
Please answer the following questions for your three core classes and your exploratory class. Use this as a guide for your SLC. You may talk about your courses in any order. Please either have your DP or other evidence to support your SLC.
- What do you enjoy most about this class?
- What are your areas of strength in this class? (Show evidence)
- What are areas where you can improve or grow? (Show evidence)
- What is your plan to follow through with this improvement or growth?
Study Habits and Behavior (3 minutes)
- Describe your study habits.
- Describe your classroom behavior and participation.
- In what ways can you improve on either study habits and/or behavior as the year progresses?
Option #2
HOHAM-SLC (10 minutes, 2 min per habit)
Please use the five Habits of Mind/Heart to reflect on your academic and personal growth since the last SLC. Make sure that EACH class is addressed and that you have physical evidence for what you are sharing. You must analyze your classes through the lens of Significance, Perspective, Evidence, Connection, Supposition, Self-Advocacy, Cooperation, Intellectual Curiosity, Integrity, Unlimited Potential. Please either have your DP or other evidence to support your SLC.
Option #3
Create your own SLC format that is interactive and engaging! (10 min)
Your parents have sat through at least four SLC's and they may be in the mood for something a little more spicy. Here is your opportunity to think outside the box and create a 10 minute SLC experience that reflects on your academic and personal development while engaging their interest in a new and exciting way! Please either have your DP or other evidence to support your SLC.
